Five years after filming “A Cashmere Story”, the documentary where nomadic herders spoke about the dilemma they faced, caught between their reliance on cashmere and the impacts of climate change and overgrazing on the fragile grasslands of Mongolia, I returned to film a follow up story on the changes herders in the province have undertaken to make cashmere production more sustainable, to ensure the future of their traditional livelihood and better protect their changing environment. This is “A Cashmere Future”.
Herders speak of how Mongolia’s first sustainable cashmere project initiated with French NGO, Agronomes et Vétérinaires sans Frontières (AVSF), has helped them implement community pasture management practices and provided them the incentive and technical training to focus on quality over quantity.
This video was commissioned by Agronomes et Vétérinaires sans Frontières (AVSF) and funded by Fond Français pour l’environnement Mondial (FFEM).
