In Georgia, a group of weavers are keeping the tradition of Borchalo carpets alive. Although these carpets are famous among experts, the craft of weaving them nearly disappeared during the 20th century after factories started producing cheaper alternatives. That all changed when Ryan Smith started reWoven, a project to revive Borchalo carpet weaving traditions in Georgia. Thanks to recent projects, more young people have started to learn how to weave these carpets by hand, helping this unique craft to survive in Georgia.
We meet the ethnic Azeri women leading the revival of Borchalo carpet weaving, witness life in their close-knit rural villages, and explore how Georgia became their home as they rescued this intricate traditional craft from the brink of disappearance.
